Our client is a multinational entertainment company and they are currently recruiting for a “Head of Screen Content and Film Programming Germany (gn)” based in their German Headquarters in Hamburg.

The purpose of the position is to implement our International Content strategy in Germany that delivers maximum profit and market share by sourcing screen content (films, alternative content & events), negotiating the best financial deals for the business with content distributors (including the major Hollywood studios) and optimising screen utilisation by programming the right content in the right place at the right time.

This role will develop, lead and inspire the Screen Content team to achieve departmental targets and objectives which have been agreed with your direct reporting lines, the International Director of Screen Content and the Territory General Manager.

Sourcing & Negotiating

  • Develop proposals for commercial deals with content distributors (from major film studios to independents) for Germany in collaboration with the International Director of Screen Content, Group Head of Data Programming, Pricing & Sales and the Territory General Manager.
  • Manage day to day and long-term relationships with content distributors in Germany.

Scheduling and dating

  • Ensure effective implementation of the company’s strategies/policies/procedures for booking and programming content into different locations that maximise on opportunities provided, helping shape the optimal content strategy for the German market.
  • Lead a weekly process of reviewing data to inform commercial terms and content scheduling, identifying opportunities for improving operational and commercial decision-making process.
  • Collaboratively work with the International Director of Screen Content in constantly further developing and implementing a new A.I.-based content scheduling system to be rolled out in 2024, which uses big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence to generate optimal content schedules.

Leadership and development of team

  • Inspire, motivate and lead the team by setting meaningful and stretching performance targets whilst monitoring their progress on a regular basis and providing them with accurate and timely feedback and where required, coaching on areas for improvement.

Market Share and Competition

  • Lead performance and strategy forecasts, monitoring and reviews of box office and market share results and provide commercial understanding of results, developing briefs and targets for the team’s dedicated Data Analyst.
  • Develop market leading initiatives to drive performance and increase business profitability and market share
  • Experience within the Media or Entertainment sector
  • Extensive experience in a commercial buying role
  • Ability to demonstrate solid examples of managing complex contract negotiations
  • Ability to demonstrate solid examples of analysing and interpreting data to inform robust business decisions
  • Extensive experience of managing external commercial relations
  • Evidence of the ability to set, measure and lead KPIs
  • Previous experience of leading and managing a team
  • Proven ability to influence at Head of and Director levels
  • Commercial understanding of how a successful multi-site business operates and its key drivers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English, communicating effectively at all levels. Recognition when to adapt the style to meet different audiences.
  • IT Skills: High level IT Skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
