Stellenbezeichnung: W2 professorship for applied cultural studies
Arbeitsort / Location: Würzburg, Bayern
Job Beschreibung: Offer Description
The Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is one of the largest practice-oriented universities in Bavaria and covers a wide range of subjects in the fields of technology, social and economic sciences, design and languages. We accompany around 9,200 students in more than 50 courses on their educational path. We meet the challenges of society as a whole, such as the energy revolution or the climate crisis, with an innovative and international range of courses. For example, we were pioneers in the conception of bilingual courses (TWIN courses), in setting up the first undergraduate course in hydrogen technology and in the software-centric course in robotics. Digitization is also an important focus for our university. As part of the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda, the Free State of Bavaria is currently investing heavily in the further expansion of our university as part of the Bavarian AI network. A center for strong artificial intelligence will be created at the university location in Würzburg and a center for robotics at the university location in Schweinfurt.
Our more than 240 professors are not only enthusiastic about teaching, they also conduct applied research in cooperation with companies, institutions and social organizations from the region. Our professors are characterized by the successful transfer of knowledge in industry and society as well as the interdisciplinary cooperation in ten faculties and eight research institutes. They are supported by around 640 employees in science, technology and administration.
At our locations in Mainfranken, town and country, culture and nature meet – with a correspondingly wide range of leisure activities. Since 2022, the THWS has been certified by the family-friendly university audit in order to do justice to the variety of life plans and family types and to actively promote the compatibility of work and family for its employees.
Constant growth, innovative teaching and forward-looking research characterize the atmosphere at our university.
A Germany-wide unique range of courses in “culinary and wine tourism” is to start in the 2024/25 winter semester as a new bachelor’s course at the Faculty of Economics.
Tourism destinations around the world are striving to reduce the number of guests and increase the sustainability of tourism and travel, and try to rebalance the needs of travelers and locals. A specialization in themes and products can become increasingly important as a unique selling proposition in global tourism competition. Current tourism offers only partially address this need and often do not have sufficiently aware, sensitive and educated staff to address the travel experience holistically. The „Culinary and Wine Tourism“ degree program therefore imparts knowledge and skills in three fields of knowledge and in two cross-sectional topics, which enable travel to be understood holistically in the structure of travellers, destinations, producers and mediators and new offers to be created. In addition to the regional aspect and the connection to the Franconian wine region, the course is also an important part of the university’s internationalization strategy. The range of courses will be interesting for national and international students who want to work in culinary and wine destinations worldwide and will be designed as a bilingual course.
