The Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is one of the largest practice-oriented universities in Bavaria and covers a wide range of subjects in the fields of technology, social and economic sciences, design and languages. We accompany around 9,200 students in more than 50 courses on their educational path. We meet the challenges of society as a whole, such as the energy revolution or the climate crisis, with an innovative and international range of courses. For example, we were pioneers in the conception of bilingual courses (TWIN courses), in setting up the first undergraduate course in hydrogen technology and in the software-centric course in robotics. Digitization is also an important focus for our university. As part of the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda, the Free State of Bavaria is currently investing heavily in the further expansion of our university as part of the Bavarian AI network. A center for strong artificial intelligence will be created at the university location in Würzburg and a center for robotics at the university location in Schweinfurt.
Our more than 240 professors are not only enthusiastic about teaching, they also conduct applied research in cooperation with companies, institutions and social organizations from the region. Our professors are characterized by the successful transfer of knowledge in industry and society as well as the interdisciplinary cooperation in ten faculties and eight research institutes. They are supported by around 640 employees in science, technology and administration.

As part of the technology offensive Hightech Agenda Bayern, the THWS is expanding its competencies in the field of artificial intelligence, in particular in the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIRO), and in the field of digitization in the health system and will focus on its research activities in particular in the Institute for Applied Social Sciences (IFAS). bundle up.
The advertised professorship is part of a cross-faculty group of more than ten professorships that will deal with the socially relevant aspects and implications of technical and digital innovations in an integrative and interdisciplinary approach under the main topic „People and Digitization“.
The scientist should initially initiate and carry out application-related research and development projects in addition to teaching for five years (the latter amounting to up to nine semester hours per week, which corresponds to up to 50% of the current teaching load).
In addition, networking within the scientific community and with practice partners is expected. Individual research and development work is expected from the scientist. A target agreement is concluded for this research and development work for a period of five years. The THWS endeavors to extend these periodically. The professorship is filled for an unlimited period.
